Quiet the Lizard Brain and Ship It!

Seth GodinThree Brains

Scientists have been telling us for a long time that we have three brains — colloquially termed the lizard brain, the dog brain, and the human brain.

In recent years we’ve been hearing more about the lizard brain. I don’t know who coined the term, but Seth Godin has certainly popularized it.

The Lizard Brain

What exactly is the lizard brain? Watch this video for a short, entertaining explanation…

Seth Godin has taken “lizard brain” and combined it with another term, “ship it”, which he uses a lot in his book, Linchpin.

Ship It

He’s also written a very practical workbook to go along with Linchpin… which is called just that: Ship It, which is a free download.

“Ship It”. By this he means to get your creativity out there, and make a difference in the world. What holds us back from doing that? Resistance. What causes the resistance? Our lizard brain. The lizard brain must be silenced before we can ship!

Seth Godin: Quieting the Lizard Brain

All of this has my brain whirling with ideas, and a dawning understanding of how this all fits together. Which is great, because ideas aren’t good enough! All they do is keep me from producing, and shipping, which is the point of it all.
