This evening our son Timothy, recently graduated from Mount Carmel Bible College, was asked to lead our evening worship service. For our closing hymn, he chose an old favourite, “The Old Rugged Cross”.
It was written by George Bennard in 1912, as a response to ridicule he had received at a revival meeting.
This beautiful rendition is sung by Guy Penrod.
Guy Penrod is well-known to millions, but relatively unknown to me. I’ve never listened to the Gaithers, so I didn’t know him from there. I think I stumbled upon Guy Penrod one day when I was doing a search for the book, Penrod, by Booth Tarkington!
I was interested to note that in addition to our faith in the Lord, we share a number of other things in common. He and his wife have been married for over 30 years, they live out in the country, and they have 8 children, all of whom are homeschooled.
